I went all old school today when I decided to leave the iPad at home and take an actual book to the cafe with me. You know, hard covers and pages in three dimensions. And surprisingly lighter than the iPad.

Of course, it wasn't long before I was reaching for the iPhone and snapping photos. Another chance to play with my new favorite camera app, Camera⁺.

More Tiny Prints!

My second order from Tiny Prints was just dropped off at the door!

I so loved how my first set of cards turned out, I decided to order more, including cards I'll be using to send out my annual holiday Book Recommendation List. It's only five months late! At this point, if I get them out before the end of June, I'll consider it a rousing success.

Panorama of the Frozen Lakefront

Thought I'd take a break from my BVI trip journal to feature a shot of the ice-encrusted lake from this weekend--to put it all in a little perspective. There's ice as far as the eye can see and none of it moving. Chicago is hiding behind the trees on the right-hand side of the image.

Washington Island Weekend

Back in early October, I spent a long weekend with friends on Washington Island, the island six miles off the tip of Door County in Wisconsin. It rained for most of the time we were there and we were about two weeks early for the fall color, but we didn't mind. It was a relaxing get-out-of-town and gave us plenty of time to catch up on good books and sample local brews.

New Toy

My new lens arrived and I'm really amazed at how small it is. It's light as a feather compared to the two-pound weight I've gotten used to carrying around on the front of my camera and when I pick up the camera now my arms fly up in the air. Okay, I exaggerate, but not much.

I've played with it ever so briefly and would have taken it on a first photo walk this afternoon to the lake if it hadn't been raining with patches of ice everywhere. Walking the path along the lake was quite a challenge. Hopefully over the weekend I'll have a chance to break it in. Heck, it's small enough I might even pop it in my bag and take it to the opera Saturday night.
